49a Hova Villas, Hove, BN3 3DJ

It's the artists Open House weekends, that time in May when festivals collide and the plethora of creativity becomes so evident that it makes you dizzy. This year I am on The Hove Arts trail exhibiting some wares from INTO THE WILD in my house, while others are at the Brighton Media Center and another in Uber, a hairdresser off Palmeira Square. I'm here all day saturday, sunday and bank holidays so pop in for a hi, a chat and a cup of tea. Will be lovely to see you :)

Just two weeks left!

Just two wees to go for you to see the first UK solo exhibition by artist Andrew James Hofmeyr. Larger than life foxes, seagulls, badgers and squirrels, this is a portrait of Brighton like never seen before, featuring Hanover, Kemptown, Sevendials and Hove. A beautiful series of paintings on recycled scaffolding boards, bringing a little bit of colour to the world and a touch of magic for the inner child.
Don't miss this opportunity to see this magical body of work in a single venue!
Naked Eye Gallery, Farm rd Mews, Farm rd, Hove BN3 1GH, everyday 10 to 6, closed on Tuesdays.

Tomorrow!

Tomorrow. flying foxes, umbrellas, 160kg of paintings, all coming together with bits of snow and an arctic freezing, tomorrow, tomorrow :)

One week!

Lol, you have to laugh just a little. Initially April had sounded great and everything was swimming... and in a sense swimming is still what we are doing. However, there has been a slight miss calculation and as it turns out Sunday the 31st of March is Easter Sunday. Therefore, not only is it traditionally family time but is also flanked beautifully on either side by bank holidays to encourage people to take time away. Now, the funny thing about living bright-side is that it is a holiday destination and many folks who live down here, migrate out for such occasions, leaving the possibility of an exhibition opening with patrons lying thin on the ground and sometimes you have no choice but to laugh, trust and know that the universe does not deal in accidents!

time ticking over...

time IS ticking over, thus I spend 2 hours trying to link this page to picasa foto albums... grrr, tick, tick, tick... such is the nature of sand... but before that it was a good day, finished two paintings and ready to move onto number five! I have started to convert the BIG big pile of wood as seen on the right in the slide show to lovely pictures, for which I have given you snippets of details, slide show on left. Things are moving forward, VERY VERY excited happy and giddy for the show... bring it on! :)

Frames

I have always appreciated the hands-on approach to art and enjoyed the process from raw material to final product, something satisfying in taking part and knowing how it was at each step. That said, I had some pictures framed for the Court Lodge Sketch Exhibition, the first time I've indulged in professional framing in about 7years and I was bowled over! There is something special about going professional and I think that for INTO THE WILD, this will be the way forward! :) So thumbs up for framing...

Hove... apparently (detail)

detail of 'Hove... apparently' one of the paintings for INTO THE WILD. Taking inspiration from where I live, the paintings are being roughly themed around Brighton and Hove and the animals that inhabit them.

flying foxes

I've been dreaming of flying foxes. Not the sleeping kind of dreams but the ones that walk with you down busy streets, inhabiting all of the spaces between. Its thursday night and I am looking at the flying fox that was made for me by my cousins daughter and wife. He's red and beautiful and makes me smile oh so... I need to find a space for him, and i think that that space will be here above me as i work on the paintings for INTO THE WILD. I am doing well with painting, but looking forward to having days to devote and really find a rhythm to paint with, its those spaces between again and doing this show is partly the process of finding those spaces between, to do something beautiful to put into the world. This blog is to help me with that.
